Hira Pandit (Mahima Chaudhury) is an actress who is nothing if not full of herself. Arrogant and thriving on only one thing - people adoring her unabashedly, and without stopping, just loving her! So naturally when this adoration stars to wane, she can't take it. Her vanity can't bear the fact that her popularity is slipping, that she's not getting nominated for awards, that her films simply aren't working like they used to. And at this fragile juncture of her life she runs into Digambar (Priyanshu Chatterjee), an old friend, whom she used to lovingly call Digs. Somewhere along the way, their lives had traveled down different paths. He's a drunkard, an ex-lawyer now very much out of work, who makes a living, singing in a cheap bar. He's counted the days and months and year since they last met but on this night when they accidentally meet he makes the one mistake that he shouldn't have...he criticizes Hira. He tells her that she needs to reinvent herself, do new work, and be less predictable on screen. This sends her into a tizzy, but it also sends her towards events that change her life forever. Hira finds herself the bona-fide drama, a real-life one, one that will surely take her back to the top! It's the story of a loving, traditional wife, the murder of her husband, a father-in-law who heads a non-political but powerful organization and the secrets that lie behind the closed doors of his "bhavan". A volatile world, which she enters purely to exploit for her own ends - is also the one that soon takes over her whole life. She begins to get attached to the women whose juicy story she had wanted just for film. She begins to see the strength in her lawyer friend whom she had merely considered a failure till now. As celluloid clashes with reality, it changes her forever.Hephaestus Books represents a new publishing paradigm, allowing disparate content sources to be curated into cohesive, relevant, and informative books. For Richer or Poorer

  • TESTED
DVDTim Allen and Kirstie Alley are New York scammers on the lam from the IRS--they got framed by their slimy accountant, Wayne Knight of Seinfeld--so they hide out as fake Amish farmers in Intercourse, Pennsylvania. As parodies of Witness go, For Richer or Poorer can't compete with the Woody Harrelson-Bill Murray flick Kingpin, by the creators of Dumb & Dumber. Allen and Alley are directed by the creator of McHale's Navy. But wait, come back! The true test of talent is a capacity to romp right through weak material, and while this story is hopelessly lame and formulaic, Allen and Alley are credible candidates for the clown prince and princess of broad TV comedy. When somebody wonders how come alleged Amish guy Tim Allen has no beard, Kirstie says, "Lice." Of course, his face has no lice on it either, so Kirstie adds, "Minute lice!" --Tim App! elo

Based on the true story of South Korea’s first serial killer. When women start turning up dead in a small town in S. Korea in 1986, two reluctantly-partnered cops resolve to bring him to justice. Without DNA testing or modern forensics, the investigators are forced to rely mainly on intuition and brute force. At times both touching and hilarious, MEMORIES OF MURDER is a riveting tale of a mysterious killer and the ceaseless pressure on those charged with stopping his rampage.A South Korean thri! ller based on a true story, Memories of Murder comes across like a hybrid of Silence of the Lambs and One False Move. A pair of rural detectives, Park (Song Kang-ho) and Jo (Kim Roe-ha), chafe when a Seoul detective named Seo (Kim Sang-kyung) gets involved in their big case: Korea's first known serial killer, who's killed two women on rainy nights. Seo is dismayed by the rural cops' interrogation methods, which consist of beating suspects until they confess--and they aren't above planting evidence or "helping" a suspect remember the details of his crime. While Park and Jo seek clues from fortune tellers and magic charms, Seo struggles to build a case from hard evidence and the forensic approaches only just starting to take hold (the movie is set in 1986). Shots of the victims and jolting moments of violence give Memories of Murder a dose of gruesomeness, but the movie has more on its mind that exploitation. Visually stylish and psychologically a! stute, Memories of Murder is as much a portrait of cult! ural cha nge as a serial killer mystery. --Bret Fetzer

Holiday Switch

  • HOLIDAY SWITCH (DVD MOVIE)
COREY HAIM (The Lost Boys), COREY FELDMAN (Gremlins) and NICOLE EGGERT (television's "Baywatch") star in this erotic thriller about young love gone dangerously wrong. Rich (COREY HAIM) works as an activities director at a fashionable resort in order to earn money for college. He meets the blonde and beautiful Megan (NICOLE EGGERT) and soon discovers she is not your average seventeen-year-old. Despite the warning from his older brother Wes (COREY FELDMAN), Rich plunges into a dangerous and obsessive affair with Megan. But Megan has more on her mind than love. She has plans for the future that could include murder. Is Rich the man who can help her make her dreams come true, or a pawn in her game of deceit? It s a week before Christmas, and Paula (Nicole Eggert) is struggling with bills, life with her blue-collar husband Gary and her two daughters. So when Nick, h! er high school boyfriend, returns to town a wealthy art gallery owner, Paula begins to wonder where she would be if she had stayed with him and not Gary. When Paula makes a holiday wish to see what life would have been like had she made another choice, she is magically transported through her washer/dryer to a parallel life where she is Nick s wife. At first, this other life seems the answer to her dreams, as she shops and dines out with her newfound wealth. But she soon realizes that the grass is NOT always greener on the other side. Her relationship with Nick is in shambles, and she misses her real husband Gary and her two girls. When she sees Gary and her kids living a happy life with another woman, she wishes for just one more Christmas gift--to have back the life she didn t appreciate. Is the grass really greener along the road not taken? Holiday Switch, a charming and well-acted TV film, examines that question through the life of Paula (Nicole Eggert), a harried! housewife whose sweet husband, Gary (Bret Anthony), is strugg! ling to make ends meet for his family. Paula is never caught up on her laundry, she has the worst haircut ever given to a human person, and she longs for an easier life, a little pampering, a husband with money and influence. Is that so wrong? When she bumps into her high-school boyfriend, Nick (Brett Le Bourveau), a successful art dealer, her fantasies run wild. The next thing Paula knows, she wakes up in a different reality--in a much ritzier zip code. In the manner of It's a Wonderful Life or Sliding Doors, Paula is suddenly plopped into a parallel universe--the luxe life with Nick that she thinks she's always wanted. The first day is fun--Paula gets to play dress-up and drench herself in jewelry, furs, great designer clothes, and every luxury she can imagine (though, oddly, she is still stuck with that bad haircut). But before long she realizes the dangers of wanting something just beyond one's reach--and not being grateful for what really matters. Eggert throws he! rself enthusiastically into the role of both Paulas, and her gradual realization of what she loves and misses about sweet old blue-collar Gary is conveyed with subtlety and nuance. But Paula's new, fractured life doesn't seem to be a dream she can awaken from--and Paula's heartache is palpable. Holiday Switch is set at Christmastime, so that the themes of family, gratitude, and the value of love over material possessions ring even more true. You see, Paula? You really have had a wonderful life. --A.T. Hurley

His popularity has never waned and this 2001 documentary on the black belt movie star attempts to explain some of his magnetic appeal. Included in this biographical film is footage of The Game of Death, the film that Lee was involved in at the time of his death. Pieced together by Lee aficionado John Little, the film's finale is a flurry of images of the master in action for over 30 minutes. Bruce Lee's life, philosophy, and final film are examined in this reverent documentary, which traces the master's path through the development of his own style, h! is battles with mainstream Hollywood and martial arts traditio! nalists, and his emergence as the world's top box-office draw. Just as interesting as Lee's life is the chance to see lost footage from The Game of Death, Lee's final, unfinished film. Outtakes offer the opportunity to see Lee's perfectionism in action, and the reconstructed storyline reveals how Lee's personal martial arts philosophy shaped the film. And yes, there is a spectacular nunchakau fight. Interviews with Lee and those close to him highlight his energy, intelligence, and remarkable charisma. Fans of Lee will welcome this new insight into his filmmaking, and those unfamiliar with his life and work will come away with a new respect. The DVD includes a Lee filmography, the theatrical trailer for The Game of Death, and audio commentary by the director. --Ali DavisGhost Game Poster (11 x 17 Inches - 28cm x 44cm) (2004) Style A reproduction poster print
